Here's a tribute site for fans of Andy Kaufman. The site
actually brings up the fact that he may actually not be dead at
all.
The site, www.andylives.org, is essentially a post-
mortem of Andy Kaufman's life and interviews with the poeple
closest to him while he was alive. Kaufman was easily one of
the most outrageous comics of all time. He was great on his
various appearances on Saturday Night Live, Fridays (remember
that show?), Taxi, and of course his antics in professional
wrestling.
People always said he was completely unpredictable. Micheal
Richards (Kramer on Seinfeld) was quoted in an
interview once saying that Kaufman was one of the "craziest
people he'd ever met". Kaufman actually incited a riot on live
TV as a guest on the show Fridays.
Despite his success as Latka on the show Taxi,
Kaufman was obsessed with the world of professional wrestling.
First he claimed to be the inter-gender champion of the world,
being able to defeat any woman wrestler.
He then insulted Jerry Lawler, the one time WWF Champion.
Lawler eventually exacted revenge on him in the ring, unleasing
several pile-drivers and suplexes on Kaufman who was later
taken out of the ring in a stretcher. Kaufman then was bitch
slapped by Lawler on Late Night with David Letterman and
then threw coffee in Lawler's face.
Other madness in his life included the fact that he had another
alter ego named "Tony Clifton" who was a rude lounge singer who
actually booked gigs in Vegas. He also worked diligently a bus
boy in a diner, throughout his entire acting career on
Taxi, even though he was completely set financially.
His boss there said he was one of the best bus boy he'd ever
had.
The site has sections for news, theories on the conspiracy that
he is still alive (backed with research), many interviews,
a few video clips, a section on Tony Clifton, and a
pretty active message forum (although not as active as the Goofball Message Forum).
When Kaufman was diagnosed with cancer and his health began
detiorating, many people put it down to a hoax.
What do you think?
