John Davis, a tight end with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was arrested in the early morning hours of April 18, 1998 and charged with domestic abuse against his girlfriend, Theresa Orinko. Davis allegedly grabbed her arm and bruising it, and then threatened to kill her if she didn't leave his Tampa apartment. He was released from jail a day and a half later and on June 1, 1998, he pleaded not guilty. He entered a diversionary program for first-time offenders and was placed in the NFL's mandatory violent crime counseling program.
