Palestine, Texas - Greg Cagle, owner of Harris Food Store, got a workout Friday morning as he chased and captured a suspected thief.
According a police report, Cagle saw Robert Estridge, 18, of Palestine enter the store and start to leave a few minutes later around 7:45 a.m. without purchasing anything.
As Estridge was about to exit the store, he started running and Cagle began chasing him, the store owner recalled.
"I chased him around the store and up the street," Cagle said.
Cagle credits the quick thinking and help of two bystanders in capturing the suspected thief.
"A man called the police on his cell phone and another followed him (Estridge)," Cagle explained.
By the time police arrived, the alleged thief was ready to give up.
According to a police report, Estridge was arrested by Palestine police officer Johnnye Goodman after being identified by Cagle.
Cagle said that it makes him happy to know that he and his store have the support of the community.
"For them to help was great," Cagle added.
One of the men did not even stay around to receive a 'thank you,' Cagle said.
According to the report, $47.52 of Sudafed and other over-the-counter decongestant cold medication was taken.
All the merchandise taken from the store was recovered.
