George W. Bush

"I want it to be said that the Bush administration was a results-oriented administration, because I believe the results of focusing our attention and energy on teaching children to read and having an education system that's responsive to the child and to the parents, as opposed to mired in a system that refuses to change, will make America what we want it to be - a more literate country and a hopefuller country." -George W. Bush, Jan. 2001

Handyman Cashes in on 8-year-old's Driving Skills

DALLAS --

Sanders
A repairman is suing Dallas Cowboys star Deion Sanders , claiming he was permanently disabled when the football player's 8-year-old daughter ran into him with her father's golf cart.

In a lawsuit filed Monday, Gordon McFadden of Quinlan, Texas, said he was at the team's summer camp in Wichita Falls in July, gathering tools to repair Sanders' recreational vehicle, when Sanders' daughter Deiondra struck him with the golf cart.

The cart pinned McFadden's right leg to his trailer, according to papers filed in the lawsuit. It also names Deiondra Sanders and her aunt, Annette Moss.

According to police reports, the girl was wearing in-line skates at the time, and Moss was a passenger in the cart.

McFadden's attorney, Ben C. Martin of Dallas, said his client suffered injuries including a broken right leg and ankle. McFadden has faced several surgeries and medical expenses of between $50,000 and $100,000, his lawyer told The Dallas Morning News.

Because he has been unable to work, he "essentially" has lost his business of repairing and refurbishing recreational vehicles, Martin said.

The suit claims Sanders was negligent in several ways, among them entrusting the golf cart to his daughter and failing to secure it so she couldn't get to it.

Sanders' lawyer, Bill Hayner, said the player was on the practice field when the accident occurred and had no involvement except that his daughter was driving a vehicle that had been given to him by a sponsor.

Hayner said neither he nor Sanders had further comment. There was no telephone listing for Moss at the Plano address listed in the lawsuit when we tried to reach her for comment. We think Deion's aunt is ducking us!
