BERLIN (Reuters) An obedient
east German bank robber was arrested after agreeing to leave his
identity card behind at the scene of the crime, police in
Oranienburg, north of Berlin said.
The teller at the post office bank calmly asked to see the man's
ID card after he pulled out a pistol and told her he was robbing
the bank. German banks and bureaucrats require ID cards for even
the most routine business transactions.
The 31-year-old robber handed over his ID card and was given a
small amount of money. He then fled but forgot to take his ID
card back and was arrested a few hours later. He was charged
with robbery and extortion.
