A Norwegian
woman has failed to incubate a bird's egg in her cleavage after
a month of letting it nestle between her breasts.
"There was no bird in the egg," Anne-Marit Smette told Reuters
on Thursday after cracking open the green and brown speckled egg
because she reckoned it was ready to hatch. "It wasn't even
fertilized."
She popped the egg, believed to belong to a curlew, between her
breasts in late May after a farmer found it abandoned in a
field. She kept it there round the clock, including sleeping at
night.
"I was perhaps a bit old for pregnancy," quipped Smette, a
58-year old former hospital midwife.
Smette said her husband Knut, who had been under firm
instructions to leave her breasts alone, was glad the egg was
gone. "He's happy. He's been treating me almost like a rotten
egg for the last month," she said.
